Campaign for Greater Access to Salford council meetings
Salford City Council hold their council meetings during working hours (generally 9am – 5pm) and are unwilling to move them to more family friendly times, unlike other councils such as Bury Metropolitan Council.
This campaign calls for Salford City Council to either change main council meetings to times/days that can be attended by those individuals with days jobs or allow audio recordings of the sessions. The Council could either allow anyone to make their own audio recordings or they could introduce their own recording equipment into the existing microphone loop within the council chamber. Other councils such as Gloucestershire County Council, Haringey County Council and Canterbury City Council record their council sessions and provide them as downloadable MP3 files on their council websites.
If the council will not change it’s meeting times to allow more of the general public to see democracy in action with their own eyes, they should provide a full and unedited account of proceedings in audio format for taxpayers use.
