It was great to see so many residents at last night’s Langworthy Forum meeting at the British Legion on Langworthy Road. The Forum is always well attended and gives local people the chance to learn about events happening in the area and ask questions on a wide variety of subjects.
We were fortunate to have council officers on hand from Salix Homes and the regeneration department who briefed us about the current HMR (Housing Market Renewal) programme going on in Seedley South. While the answers were a little vague, it was at least appreciated that officers were open and honest with us about the future development of our area.
Ros Munro (Headteacher of the new Glendinning Primary School currently being built) was on hand to introduce herself and explain that she was already in-post and working from the Cornerstone on Langworthy Road. Should prospective parents have any questions for Ros, she is available most days at the Cornerstone. Quite a few questions and comments related to the over-subscribed position of the new school, which has not exactly come as a shock to many people such as myself. While Ros herself is not directly involved in admissions criteria, she did confirm that no temporary classrooms or portakabins would be located on the school site – as there were exciting ideas for developing the school grounds into planted gardens and allotments etc.
This left a huge hole of unanswered questions with the room demanding to know why ward councillor (and Lead Member for Children’s Services) John Warmisham was not in attendance. As the Forum meeting date is planned months in advance, I do feel that Councillor Warmisham should have made time in his schedule for this important meeting with his constituents.
Lastly it was exciting to learn that Langworthy in Bloom has won another award this year – but we don’t know what yet! Jenny Sowerby who I have seen many a time on Langworthy Road tending to the flowers revealed that the Mayor has been invited to the awards ceremony, so we’re hopeful it’s another win for Langworthy in Bloom. Watch this space!
During the Open Forum at the end of the agenda, my favourite topic of potholes was raised. Regular readers of my blog will know I have been campaigning for years to get a proper, scheduled maintenance plan in place for the roads and footpaths in our ward. A resident particularly complained about the dire state of Derby Road – and how his whole house shakes due to the heavy traffic driving over the deep potholes. Derby Road and Seedley Park Road have been the subject of numerous letters and emails between me and Urban Vision over the last year.
It is therefore fantastic news to report that today and yesterday, Urban Vision have been doing a great job of cutting out the damaged sections of Derby Road and re-laying large portions of the road – a far more professional job than we have seen in the past. I spoke with the workers this morning and they confirmed they were scheduled to work on the entirety of Derby Road for the rest of the day.

[...] pupils from the three closing primary schools of Langworthy Road, Seedley Primary and Tootal Road. I blogged about this back in September, when I spoke with the new headteacher of Glendinning Primary School, Ros [...]
I was at the forum and unfortunately did not take Ros Munroes email address, could you tell me how I can obtain this?
you could have asked that quesion, like many, many, many others did, at one of the last 7yrs worth of monthly LE task group meetings held at either the Foyer or the Cornerstone….why wait till now?
Honestly, I have not attended every forum due to work commitments – I was genuinely gutted that I also missed the last Ordsall & Langworthy Community Committee at the Cornerstone as I was on holiday in Spain. I believe JW made a rare appearance. He almost never attends the CC.
I have attended all but 1 community committee meetings this year and all but 1 forum meetings this year.
I would actually have liked to answer JW and say “yes, I benefited from the block improvements” but would also want to ask why my requests for rectification of the inferior workmanship were constantly fobbed off until the time period had passed (for maintenance responsibility to go back onto the homeowner).
ps, before I go…
I noted you didnt put your hand up at the Langworthy Forum when JW asked if anyone present had benefitted from the block improvements..why not be honest and admit you had-or didnt you want the attendees to know?
Steve, it was never a criticsm of you or Cllr Drake, merely an observation based on the facts..lets just leave it at that shall we…I am delighted there has been a more active lib dem input in Langworthy since 2007 onwards, no complaints on that, but please be mindful of an “I was there” scenario … leaves you open to “you were not”….from one who was there.. your lady doth protest too much I fear. Wont be around for a few days…working away, but I will catch up when I get back.
I don’t know what else to say other than I am not Councillor Drake’s keeper, if you wish to know more about how involved she was, you can always email her at councillor.drake@salford.gov.uk
For my own part, I was here through SRB5 (I benefited from that regeneration tranche) – but was not politically active until 2008. I can only offer this: I am active now. Judge me on my actions from 2008 onwards, since I believe I care more about Langworthy & Pendleton than John Warmisham. At least I live in the ward!
Done that Steve, Lynn did stand but anyone can do that, its not the same as being active in your own community. Im talking about evidence here…why dont you go back on the minutes of CC, SRBV, Pendleton Forum for the last 10yrs and see how often Lynn spoke up at these meetings the Langworthy..and while youre at it check how often the other candidate, S Plaister spoke up about anything other than his own patch, Kara St, Seedley South.I stand by what I say…another “activist” off the radar except when it comes to his own comfort. You can get a copy of all the meetings held over the last 10 yrs via SCC. Bill Hinds was lead member when the Langworthy regen kicked off…but there were loads of meetings before Langworthy got any money…all minuted and all held in the SCC archives.

Just go over previous years results and see how many times Lynn stood in Langworthy (and Pendleton when that was a ward, before the boundary changes).
Steve,I will check your info… Lynn lives in the Langworthy ward, you state she has been active there for 8yrs. Where does it say on SCC website that she has been politically active in that ward for that length of time?
Sorry Steve,
But I have minutes to prove she didnt.., there are many other local residents who will tell you the same thing. She may have attended a few public partnership board meetings, but offered none or very little comment on any issue. If you ask SCC for the minutes from the the SRBV-the regeneration programme, task groups, Living En, groups, C& YP group, Eco Dev group, you will see she didnt attend.
Personally I have only been politically active in Salford for the past few years, but if you check Salford Council’s website for past election results you’ll see Lynn Drake has been active for at least 8 years if not longer. She attended most (if not all the regeneration meetings).
Steve, please, lets get off on the right foot here by having a bit of honesty, half a tale makes me nervous about the teller. If you and Lynn were both around during the last 8-10yrs why werent you at any of the regeneration meetings to champion/support residents-you dont have to be a cllr to do that. There were hundreds & hundreds of public mtgs held, most of which I attended,a big chunk out of my young life I can tell you..so please dont insult my intelligence by using the “website” smokescreen, or saying lib dem members were on board. The lib dems, along with the tories were not. Seedley South always included in the regen scheme was brought to the attn of the lib dems by a prospective (Ordsall) candidate who living in the S South area (not sure if there was ever any interest declared-but people were talking)…also had his home done up by the secret millionaire.
Langworthy is a very small area, so dont take it as read that people from Langworthy have walked around oblivious to the political support extended over the last 10 yrs.
By the way, Cllr Owen IS ancient to me, Ive decided Im only gonna vote for someone that rocks!
I’ve been here throughout the regeneration (but this site hasn’t!) – better late than never I guess.
I live on Seedley Park Road, Derby Road runs adjacent to the back of my property – I’ll be taking a look at Jubilee Street tomorrow, as I have some leafletting planned.
Nice to see your site up and running at last. Where have you all been throughout the implementation of the regeneration.Isnt it a bit of closing the door after the horse has bolted..arent you 7yrs too late? I wonder if this site is gonna be like the rest…censored!
Still, you are here now. You live on Derby Rd, so its good to see youve dealt with that one…now what about Jubilee St, its been a disgrace for years.
I don’t doubt it with you on their case!
I just popped around the corner to have a look at Derby Road (photo added). They haven’t finished yet, so I’ll be on their case until the entire road has been sorted. With luck next week Seedley Park Road will get the similar treatment!
Steve, great result on the roads and thanks for all the work you put in. Well done.
